Lateral management

Lateral management - the success principle for companies in the digital age by Dr. Roland Geschwill and Dr. Martina Nieswandt, Springer, 2016 "Great emergencies and crises show us how much greater our vital resources are than we ourselves assumed", William James, US psychologist and philosopher. Professor of psychology and philosophy at Harvard University from 1876 to 1907.Digitalization is dramatically changing business and society. Companies today are faced with complex issues. Therefore, the skills and experience of many are needed. Contemporary companies therefore rely on laterality and leadership at eye level. Empirical studies have shown that lateral management, i.e. the assumption of responsibility by middle management, can be a significant success factor in change processes. While leadership and collaboration were still organized hierarchically in the 20th century, the future will be networked. Management will no longer be vertical, but horizontal.
